I found a link to you through another site. I had to check this out. My husband and I tried for over 6 and a half years to get pregnant. We went to a doctor we were told was a fertility doc only to discover later that he's not. After a few tests, he actually looked me full in the face and said "I don't know what's wrong with you." I can not begin to tell you how I felt. I'm glad to know there is this organization out there. I'd like to see something similar nation wide. I think it would be great to have this resource regardless of where you live. Also, the fact that your volunteers and counselors have experienced this same thing is totally reassuring. There are MANY well meaning people out there who just seem to talk to hear themselves. They say hurtful things to try to make you feel better - never realizing they've hurt you. I tried to read your message board, and had trouble making it through the first posting as I have felt the things that person was talking about. Seeing that someone else is going through what I went through made me cry. I am currently expecting my first baby at the end of August. And while I'm happy for myself, I still remember the heartache and pain that went along with the last 6+ years. So, I guess I've written all that to say thank you for your site. You aren't here in Arizona, but you are out there. That in and of itself is a blessing. I am also thankful that you are trying to get infertility issues covered my medical insurance. The medical insurance provided by my employer says they will cover $2,000 toward infertility - as long as it isn't pharmacy or medical procedures. I'm not really sure what that leaves that they do cover! Again, you have my thanks and my praise. This site is very well put together and informative. I'm happy that people in the New York area have places to call or to go for comfort. And I'm sorry my note is so long!

I am scared because i cant afford to see a doctor. I have been using the internet to search for something i can take to help with the facial hair growth. I have normal cycle but i am heavy. I guess i would like someone to tell me everything is okay and any suggestions to help with the facial hair. Right now i was told to take licorice root is that good or bad!! Whatever anyone can do to help....Thanks! I feel alone and i am scared!! Michelle

I would like to extend my most heartfelt thanks for the information I was able to obtain on PCOS from your website! I am 30 years old and a newlywed, but I have been misdiagnosed with PCOS for several years. I was finally diagnosed about 5 years ago yet I have been dealing with irregular menstral cycles, hair growth, weight gain, etc. since I was 16! I finally pushed my doctor into testing me for the syndrom and he was able to diagnos me with at least something. Now that I am married, we are hoping to start a family in the near future. I realize it will be extremely difficult for me to carry a child to full term, not just getting pregnant. I have discussed this with my husband and we have decided that we could adopt if it came down to it. Again, I would like to thank you for the wonderful information you have provided me. I plan on reading all of the information I can find about PCOS so that I understand what procedures my doctor uses with me and also be able to ask questions.

I am 27 and at age 11 was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome and was told that there was a small chance of infertility, but not to worry. For just a little over 2 years my husband and I have been trying to have child. We have been doctoring ever since the beginning. The problem lies in the follicles being released, due to the walls of my ovaries are simular in size to an orange peel. I have had an operation to make it possible for the follicles to be released, but still having difficulty. I have done the oral fertility drugs, injections of follistim, and had an IUI with negative results, but I did ovulate this time. I'm not sure exactly what the next step will be, waiting to for my cycle to begin. I would really like anyone who has the same problem as I, to email me and let me know what there is to expect. Does it just take time or is there little hope of conceiving with polycystic ovarian snydrome? I'm trying to cope the best I can. I'm just afraid that it will not happen or we run out of money to continue the process. My email address is . I have to admit this site is pretty good, at least now in some ways I know I am not alone. Thanks, Donna

My aunt referred me to your sight after seeing the Leeza show. I am only 23 years old and know that there is something wrong, but none of the doctors have ever given me answers that worked. I have been put on anti-depressants and birth control pills, which both only made a lot of the symptoms worse. I miscarried my first child in 95 and since then I dramatically gained weight, have had a heck of a time keeping facial hair to a minimum (it's very embarrassing), keeping my acne under control and most importantly, I have been unable to concieve. My husband and I have been married for 3 years now and would really like to get a start on our family. We have been trying for 2 years with no luck. Hopefully now with this information, we might be able to make our dreams come true!!!

I have a little extra hair on my face and abdomen but nothing extreme, and I am about 50-60 lbs. overweight. This has been great information that you have been able to provide about PCOS.

If it wasn't for your organization, I would have never received the help I needed to fight my insurance company. In 1998, you printed information in your newsletter (RESOLVE NYC) about the Attorney General's Health Care Bureau. Since that time, the Attorney General's Office assisted me in obtaining insurance coverage for the myomectomy needed to remove a 6 cm. fibroid. One year later, after I appealed a claim and the insurance company began to deduct payments on legitimate claims, I again contacted the Health Care Bureau. For the above reasons and for the wonderful newsletter and Message Boards, I would always like to remain a member of AIA. :)

I have some of the conditions talked about for PCOS such as no mentresual cycle at all any more (last one about two years ago), have not been able to conceive although I was pregnant back in 1994 but I miscarried. I do not have the hairiness. I read the articles in Women's Day and LHJ, but as I said I don't have all the symptoms. My doctor tells me that I don't have it but will run some blood tests. I have no insurace so I cannot have the tests done. I have also had two D&C's done because I did have my period but was bleeding so bad that was the only way to stop it. Does anyone have any ideas or answers or maybe even a doctor in the Buffalo, NY area that I might visit? Thanks!!

I am 30 years old and have had PCOS for about 15 years. Most of that 15 years I have been mistreaded and misdiagnosed told to lose weight and come back when I had. I have most of the classic symptoms: obesity, excess facial hair, elevated testosterone levels, slight acne and no periods unless I use Provera, birth control pills, aldactone and the like. I have now been put on the birth control pill that the article I read in the Ladies Home Journal says that I should not be taking. I would like to have the name of any doctors that know how to treat this disease in the new jersey area. thank you so much.

I'm 24 going on 25 this July and my husband and I are thinking about having a child. For the past 8yrs that I've been with him we haven't been protecting ourselves hoping that we might concieve, of course that hasn't happened. I've been to a few GYN to discuss this problem and eachtime I'm asked if I've ever been pregnant and I tell them no and they look suprised. I think I started getting my period at the age of 11, but since then it's been irregular. One doctor put me on the pill at the 17 and that regulated my period for about 2yrs and then it stopped. I didn't pay much attention to it because I'm not regular anyway. I decided to get off the pill thinking that my period will come by itself and it did the next month and I didnt again until about a year. The last time I had my period was at 23 in Feb., and it lasted for 5 days. I've been to the GYN and he said that he can give me Provera to shed my lining (which I've taken before when I was 17) and then put me on the pill. To me it sounds like that defeats the purpose if I want to concieve. I gave myself until I was 25 to try and get pregnant and right now it seems to be fustrating. I was told that I lack progesteron that is why I'm not ovulating. It seems as though I'm the complete opposite of some of the PCOS symptoms...I'm not overweight(I think that I'm underweight..I'm very slim) I'm 5'9 118lbs,no excess hair growth and hardly any acne. I could go on for days, but I know that I've typed too much. If anyone can get back to me and hear more of dilema, please email. Thank You

Now I am 31 and have found out that I have diabetes, alao i have been trying for 2 yrs to get pregnant. I was wonderinbg if PCOS can come on later since I do know that I was fertile at one time and now I am not and if the diabetes has brought on the PCOS that I think is causing me not being able to conceive. My sister has PCOS and has asked me to see if you have any information about treating PCOS with certain types of birth control. Her doctor has prescribed a type of birth control that she had heard that should not be prescribed. Thank you for your help.

I came on because of the article in LHJ, and I wanted to know more about PCOS. I was unable to find a support group in my area or anymore info than I already have. I may not be looking in the right place. Could you help me find diet info and other ways to lose weight while dealing with PCOS and also getting pregnate after weight loss. Thank you
