You certainly seem to have many of the symptoms of PCOS -- anovulation, infertility, facial/body hair and obesity. Also, the fact that your sister was diagnosed is a compelling fact. Doctors now believe that PCOS has a genetic component. You and your sister may want to participate in one of the genetics studies listed on our PCOS Study Guide page. In terms of the diagnostic tests, see the article by Dr. Daniel Stein on the PCOS page as well as my summary of the talk by Dr. Roger Lobo at our PCOS Conference in October 1999. They both talk about the diagnostic tests. You need to find a reproductive endocrinologist or a medical endocrinologist. Is there a university medical center near you? I would ask them what percentage of their practice is PCOS patients and see whether they are familiar with the new insulin sensitizing medications. Good luck, Ellen
