I'm not a doctor but my eyebrows were raised at the "emergency ICSI." Normally, the need to do ICSI would (hopefully) be uncovered during a couple's infertility workup. Assuming that it has been done at a reputable lab, however, you needn't worry. As the previous poster noted, ICSI has been around for many years. Pregnancy rates are at least as high as for non-ICSI IVF, if not higher. (I distinctly recall hearing a talk by Dr. Rosenwaks a few years ago in which he said that ICSI success rates at Cornell were higher than for non-ICSI IVF at that time.)As far as I know, the risks for miscarriage and birth defects are no higher than for non-ICSI IVF. In other words, the fact that ICSI was done is not a reason to cancel your transfer but I am still curious about the emergency. Good luck, Ellen Bender, AIA
