Melisa,

Different typs of medications are likley to be used during your IVF cycle. For most women Exercise while taking lupron shouldn't be a problem. Later in the cycle ovulation inducing drugs are likely to be used. The normal response of the ovaries to these drugs is to get bigger as the follicles grow inside of them. Ovaries can get to be more than two to three times their normal size. When ovaries get bigger, a woman is more likely to feel them, especially if she is running. The time in the cycle when ovaries are usually most uncomfortable is about a week AFTER the retrieval and transfer. This may seem peculiar since, in most cycles, no hormonal medication, except for progesterone, will be used after the retrieval. This discomfort does not occur for everyone and may not occur for you.

For some women the enlargement and discomfort can be severe and is associated with other symptoms. That severe enlargement is called moderate or severe hyperstimulation. If you become significantly hyperstimulated you probably shouldn't run at all. In that case running could pose a cardiovascular risk.

I agree with your RE that exercise is good and can be continued into your cycle. It is not likely that moderate exercise will influence the outcome of your cycle. Use your head and pay attention ot the signals that your body sends you. If you don't feel like yourself, if you feel pain inside your body when you run, then... stop running.

Please speak with you RE about the above issues and how they may apply to you. Every women is different, one set of rules can't apply to all.

Good Luck :)

: I am about to start an IVF cylce with Lupron doses beginning Saturday. I am a fitness fanatic and altought not a long distance runner, I do run 3-5 miles 3-5 times a week with other cardio in between. My RE has said it is fine to continue as is, but certain articles say to stop the pounding motion. Any recommendations.
