There is surprisingly little data on this. Studies on pregnant women who are not high risk have found no greater risk of premature delivery following intercourse. Nevertheless extra precautions are taken in IVF patients. We do have data that uterine contractions during embryo transfer (ie a traumatic transfer) decreases the live birth rate. This data is extrapolated to the post transfer time. Another reason to refrain from intercourse is that the ovary is very enlarged at this time and the cervix bleeds very easily.

: I'm about to go to transfer and I've been told not to have intercourse until after the pg test. I just heard that that includes orgasm ... I am baffled. I would like to know if this is advised and why?
