Dear JenA: Gonal F is usually given subcutaneously (with the smaller needle) although it definitely can also be given IM (intramuscular, with the larger needle). If you are mixing Gonal F with Pergonal or Humegon, which are only FDA approved for IM administration, you will probably be told to give the whole thing IM. If you are being told to give straight Gonal F via IM injection I suggest you ask you RE if there is a specific reason for this. Good luck!
: When I did IUI with injectibles, the RE had me doing the shots subcutaneously (belly).
: Now, with my IVF cycles, the RE (different from the first) is having me do them IM.
: Why would doctors do this differently and what is the difference? Is Gonal-F meant to be done one way or the other?
: I'm confused. Thanks.
