Dear Sandra: Don't worry! In the past, synthetic progesterones with some androgenic activity may have been given, but since we only give natural progesterone (the same hormone made by the ovaries and placenta in spontaneous pregnancies) there is no evidence of any adverse effects on the fetus. By the way, that article was quite sensational, but not very scientific, and I think it was misleading on many counts.

: I read an article in the NY Times about testosterone that pointed to a study in which it was found that women in the fifties who took progesterone in order not to miscarry tended to have little girls who showed tendencies to become "tomboys". Is there a higher rate of homosexuality in girls whose mothers took progesterone during pregnancy? When I was pregnant after IVFI took those horrible injections for weeks and am now concerned.
