The dye injection can be very crampy. It is important that the doctor inject the dye slowly. Advil pretreatment helps to relax the uterus. If there is fallopian tube blockage the injection is more painful. In proximal blockage the tube can be opened with the procedure (fallopian tube catheterisation). Nevertheless, the test is the best way of advising the RE about the anatomy of the uterus and tubes and is very worthwile.

: Should an HSG hurt? I had one done a while ago and could hardly walk for two hours and was in bed for two days. My GYN told me that there was no blockage. Please advise. Thank you.
