I work for a large state university. Of the 3 health plans offered in our area, none cover the treatment of infertility. All will diagnose, but after that, you are on your own (medications, u/s, IUI's, etc.)

I asked my Systems Employee Benefits Representative about why no health plans cover IF treatment but all cover Viagra. He replied, "Good question."

He suggested I write the board a letter raising the question and have it brought up at the next fall meeting. He suggested that I tell of the different "levels" of IF treatment, because the preconceived (and very wrong) notion is that all IF treatment if IVF and will cost the system rates to go up for all to benefit a small group of people.

Does anyone know where I can start to make an argument for partial or full coverage of IF treatment? (I am very new to this, ttc 18 mos, 2nd month clomid)

I can't imagine being diagnosed with cancer, and being turned down for treatment because my health insurance does not cover it. I know this is overly simplistic, but it is an emotional issue. I need help of how to infor this board who makes decisions for hundreds of thousands of others around the state.

Thanks,
Stacy
