Kate, your experience is typical of the big NYC clinics. It doesn't feel like an ideal doctor-patient relationship. On the other hand, it is set up that way to allow more of us to have access to their services, so I guess we should be glad that it works that way! I have mostly talked to my RE at the outset, about big decisions. Once into a cycle, I get the sense that you see anybody who is around.
: Hi ladies,
: I've been reading a lot of posts about getting 2nd opinions. Many of you have very positive things to say about your RE. This may sound like a very silly question, but how much contact do you actually have with your RE? My experience (at one of NYC's 'big three') has been that I meet with my RE before the cycle starts (or more accurately, after the last cycle failed!). Then once the cycle starts, ultrasounds are performed by whomever is covering for that particular day. Same is true for retrievals & transfer. I just finished my 2nd IVF cycle, and only saw my RE once -- and only because I bumped into him on my way to the ladies room! He sure wasn't on his way to visit me!!! Don't get me wrong - I'm happy with all the other RE's I've been dealing with, but I just wondered how often do other folks actually see or hear from your primary RE?
: Thanks for the insight,
: -Kate
