What: When you choose to adopt you are making a lifetime decision.
Find out whether adoption is the way you want to build your family by exploring the options, gathering the facts, and empowering yourself to make the choice that is right for you.
Topics:
  • Oct. 4: Opening the Door to Adoption
    Amy Rackear, CSW, discusses taking the leap from infertility treatment to adoption, and how to prepare for your home study.
  • Oct.11: Agency Adoption
    Dawn Smith-Pliner, CSW, Friends in Adoption; and Donnamarie Jones, CSW, show you how to adopt the agency way, by describing how two very different agencies help you find your baby and bring her home.
  • Oct. 18: Independent Adoption: The Legal Nuts & Bolts/The Emotional Journey
    Aaron Britvan, Esq., and Lisa Schuman, CSW, give you the how tos and provide tips on coping with the ups and downs of this process.
  • Nov. 1: International Adoption: Explore the Options
    Barbara Greenberg, Esq., Cathy Danowski, Caseworker, New Beginnings Family and Children's Services, and an adoptive parent who has adopted from Russia tell you what to expect when adopting from Latin America, China, and Russia.
  • Nov. 8: International Adoption: Addressing Concerns About the Health and Development of Infants & Children
    Andrew Adesman, MD, Director, Adoption Evaluation Center, Schneider Children's Hospital, helps you separate the myths from the realities, providing medical information and telling you what you can do to understand a child's health status before you bring him home.
  • Nov. 16*: Inside the Adoption Triad
    A birthmother, adoptee, and adoptive parents share the adoption experience from their unique perspectives, then answer your questions. Monica Lowy, Spence-Chapin Outreach Coordinator, will attend.

    *Note: Nov. 16th meeting is on a Thursday.
