I'm not a doctor, but my understanding is the endometrium (uterine lining) can build up a lot if you haven't had a period for months and it can cause heavy bleeding like you've had. Often a D&C is needed to clear out the tissue. You didn't say how long it had been since your last period, but I think you definitely need to see your doctor about the heavy bleeding.
