You are right, you have not treated the PCOS, just a part of it. PCOS patients are at a higher risk for heart disease, diabetes and high blood presure, all which need to be taken seriously.
I feel you are right to question the diabetes connection. I, too have PCOS and by ob/gyn wanted to go straight to clomid. However, I spoke with an endocrinologist,but not a reproductive one. Any way, he did insulin and glucose tests and put me on metformin (glucophage) in hopes of regulating my ovaries to ovulate so hopefully I don't need clomid. I've only been on it for a week so I don't know how well it works yet. Hope this helps, and good luck to you.
