The use of oral contraceptive pills are a good choice for regulation of your periods. As for the risk of diabetes with PCOS, the data is clear. Thin women with PCOS have about a 5% chance of glucose intolerance and 2% diabetes risk. Obese women with PCOS have a diabetes risk ranging from 7.5% to 10% and the risk of glucose intolerance (possibly a pre-diabetic state) may approach 40% in these women. It would certainly pay to have your sugar levels investigated, especially if you are overweight. Good luck.
: I am presently on birth control pills to regulate my period because of it. My concern is that diabetis runs in my family . What is the risk with PCOS? Since it effects the insulin levels.
