: I was diagnosed w/ PCOS this past December w/o any testing, I have most of the classic symptoms (excessive hair growth, overweight, irregular periods, severe cramping, heavy bleeding) my GYN started me on
: Provera for the 1st 10 days of my cycle to regulate me and prevent excessive buildup of the lining of my uterus. Just yesterday he prescribed Glucophage 500mg
: twice daily to try to counteract the other symptoms. I had many of the same problems getting pregnant that I keep reading here and truly believe that I do have PCOS. (I had to take clomid for 8 mos and HCG injections for 4 months). I really just need to know if what my MD is doing may work. The worst of it is the weight gain and the hair on my face. I've tried electrolysis, waxing, laser, etc to no avail. Please respond if you have any answers. THANKS!!!!

You may truly have PCOS. However, there are other conditions that may cause the same cluster of symptoms and therefore, it is important that you have a thorough investigation. Other labs to test include prolactin and thyroid. I would suggest that you pursue this with your doctor further.

good luck
