I am 26 years old and diagnosed with PCOS on Friday, March 17th. I am trying to get as much information as I can. The diagnosis was based upon all my hormone levels through blood work by my OB/GYN. He basically told me my next step in treatment will be Provera if I don't get my cycle by the 27th of this month in order for me to start on Alesse. I am a little worried after being in the chat last night. I feel that there should be more done here and I should see an endocronologist. I have been battling a weight problem - I am now on Weight Watchers and have lost 20 lbs since November 6th. I am still working on about another 20 so I am not really overweight but do fight to keep the weight off. I have also experienced large amount of hair growth on my face in the male pattern which I am aware is associated with this disorder.

There is also a family history of infertility, hypothyroidism, endometriosis, cancer, heart conditions and diabetes. From all the reading that I have done on this disorder, I feel I should see an endocronologist. Is that the case? My doctor seems very reluctant to give me a sonogram or send me to a specialist. I have insurance that requires referrels. Just so you know I am not looking to have children at this moment but one day I would like to and I want to regulate what is going on now.
Any idea what steps I can take from here?

I appreciate all the help you can give. I was given the names of a few doctors as well. I live in Staten Island and work in downtown Manhatten.

Liz
